PC3 Indy Review!

Petra fans from as far away as California and New Jersey came to the 3rd Petra Convention known as PC3 on May 5th in Indianapolis. “Petheads” celebrated the 40th anniversary of Petra.  The convention was held at the Wingate Hotel in a conference room small enough to make a cozy atmosphere where fans were able to mingle with the artists that they love.
Highlights of the all day event included a listening party for John Schlitt’s new CD, The Greater Cause.  John described the inspiration behind every song on the album. He invited Dorla, his wife of 40 years, to come up front and join him during the song he wrote for her, “ The Gift”.
Three of the four original Petra members were there: John DeGroff, Bill Glover, and Greg Hough. They form a group now called GHF (God Has Forgiven). They joined John Schlitt for a question and answer session where they shared stories about the early years (and not so early years) of Petra.
There were tables full of old Petra memorabilia—album covers, magazines, promotional items and even concert posters that dated back to 1972. Tee shirts from different stages of Petra history hung from the walls.
The Jeremy Towne Band, a local band from the Mooresville Church of God excited the crowd with a set of several modern worship songs.
After a short dinner break, Sam Scales took the stage and preformed a full set of her heartfelt songs and shared her testimony. Several of her songs were from her latest CD, Eyes On The Road.
Next, GHF ripped up the stage with some of their own material and old Petra songs.  They were joined by Warren Arnold (Sam Scales’ husband) on saxophone and Garry Jones on blues harp for a rousing Christian rendition of “Stormy Monday Blues”. You’ve heard of the Godfather of Soul? GHF are the Godfathers of classic Christian rock.
The day of fun and memories ended with John Schlitt. He sang his classics, Petra classics and songs from his new release, “The Greater Cause”. John had the audience on its feet.  He ended the night with an amazing performance of his new radio hit, “ Hope That Saves The World”. After tonight’s performance it’s obvious why he was named Best Christian Rock Singer by GospelMusicChannel.com.
Everyone had a great time and we all felt blessed to share our love for Petra, but most of all, our love for God.
